A picture has finally landed. Not just a promo shot or a sketchy paparazzi picture from a desert set, but the first official image of the new He-Man, Nicholas Galitzine, in full figure. And although we only see him from behind, one thing is certain: The sword is large, the hair is blown back, and the body… well, we’ll get back to that.

A new prince Adam in play

It is the 30-year-old Nicholas Galitzine stepping into the role, taking over from none other than Dolph Lundgren who left Eternia in 1987. That era was all about neon-lights, kitsch, muscles, and Frank Langella overacting as Skeletor. It was camp, it was 80s-epic – and it was impossible not to love it.

Galitzine, who has appeared in Red, White & Royal Blue and Bottoms, now attempts to fill the boots (and chest plate) as the mighty Prince Adam, who transforms into the most powerful man in the universe with the words: “I have the power!”

And yes, he is in shape – but is it enough?

In the new picture, Galitzine stands against the light with the sword slung over his back. The body looks chiseled, and the classic outfit resembles a modernized version of what one could pull from the 80s Mattel toy packaging. Yet, for some fans, the question will linger: Is he muscular enough for the role?

After all, we’re talking about a character originally designed as a mix between Conan and Hulk, just with better hair. And although Galitzine has clearly bulked up, he hasn’t quite reached Hafthor Bjornsson-level – who amusingly is also in the film as Goat Man.

A strong cast and a seasoned crew behind the camera

The film’s villains and heroes also boast an impressive cast: Camila Mendes as Teela, Idris Elba as Man-At-Arms, Alison Brie as Evil-Lyn, and Jared Leto as Skeletor – a casting sure to spark debate. Morena Baccarin plays the Sorceress, James Purefoy is King Randor, and Charlotte Riley as Queen Marlena.

Behind the camera is Travis Knight, who previously delivered the underrated Bumblebee and the beautifully animated Kubo and the Two Strings. The screenplay is by Chris Butler, known for ParaNorman and Missing Link – so we are in the hands of storytellers who know how to strike a stylistic tone.

Masters of the Universe – a brief universe overview

The He-Man universe was born as a toy line in the early 80s and quickly developed into a comic book, animation series, and a feature film. It has always been a delightful mix of fantasy, science fiction, and pumped action – and fans have long awaited a new film adaptation that could bring both nostalgia and fresh energy to Eternia.
