Nintendo has done it again – and this time, they’re not just breaking old records, they’re setting them ablaze with a Super Mushroom in hand. With over 3.5 million units sold in just four days, the Nintendo Switch 2 is now officially the fastest-selling console in gaming history. Yep, it overtook both the PS5 and PS4 – and did so with the speed of a Blue Shell on the final lap.

3.5 Million in Four Days – Nothing Short of Absurd

According to Nintendo, the Switch 2 sold 3.5 million units globally in under a week. For comparison, it took the PS5 a month to reach 3.4 million, while the PS4 needed 16 days to hit 2.1 million. Which basically makes Nintendo the Usain Bolt of the console world – wearing a Mario hat and with a battery on its back.

Doug Bowser (yes, he’s still called Bowser, and yes, it’s still funny), President of Nintendo of America, stated that fans “are showing their excitement for the Switch 2 as an upgraded way to play both at home and on the go.” Fair enough – but this isn’t just about an upgrade. This is a dominant victory in a console war where Nintendo just kicked the door in.

What Makes It So Special?

Nintendo is still playing its cards close to the chest, but those who have gotten their hands on the device report significantly improved performance, a better screen, faster load times, and an even more seamless transition between handheld and TV mode. It’s still a “Switch” – just one with muscle and modern gear.

Rumors suggest it’s backward compatible, launching with exclusive titles, and that a new Zelda isn’t far off. And when Nintendo manages to hit both casual gamers and hardcore fans in one swing? Sales go wild.

The Future Is (Still) Nintendo-Shaped

Even though Xbox is cooking up a handheld, and PlayStation is nervously eyeing Kyoto, it’s Nintendo that currently owns the momentum. And they’re doing it without shouting the loudest. The Switch 2 landed with a solid plop – and the whole world responded with a collective “shut up and take my money.”

If you haven’t pre-ordered yet, prepare for empty shelves, overpriced eBay listings, and a hunt reminiscent of the first Pokémon GO chaos. Because everyone wants the new Switch – even those who’ve never gamed beyond Candy Crush.
